Monaco Nails & Beauty - Morgan Taylor Professional Nail Lacquer Launch

As you can probably tell by all my NOTD posts on here and Instagram, I am a bit of nail art junkie. I absolutely love having pretty nails, and when I was working at the pharmacy it was well known by both my co-workers and customers that my nails would change every week.

When Camille and I were invited to attend the Morgan Taylor Professional Nail Lacquer Launch on Tuesday night, I was over the moon! It was held at The Devereux Boutique Hotel in Remuera.

On arrival we were treated to drinks and immediately informed that we were able to choose a nail polish for a manicure, and that it would be popped into our goodie bag for us to take home. So exciting!

Of course actually choosing one proved to be difficult as every single colour there was absolutely beautiful. I went into it with the intention of choosing one of the gorgeous teal colours, but as soon as I saw Invitation Only, I was in love.

As soon as we had picked out a nail polish, one of the wonderful ladies gave us a manicure and painted our nails with our chosen colour. The lovely Tanya did mine, who I found out is a freelance makeup artist, hair stylist and nail artist! She was so interesting to talk to and I am already stalking her on Instagram.

While all this was going on, we were treated to delicious food from Al's Deli. There were mini bagels and mini tacos! Yay! Everything tastes better in mini-form. They even had these delicious little cheesecake pops, I seriously wanted to take them home with me.

Penny, the owner of Monaco Nails & Beauty, told us a lot about the Morgan Taylor brand. It is created by Danny Haile and David Daniel (whose company is also responsible for number one nail polish brand Gelish) and made it's first big splash at Fashion Week shows in New York, London and Milan prior to it's release in 2013. They are a salon-only brand that specialise in unique colours that you can't find anywhere else.

And just because, here are some more pics:

Overall I can't thank the lovely people from Monaco Nails & Beauty enough for putting on such a fabulous event. I had a great time meeting new people and catching up with all the other bloggers. Was also lovely to see Meagan from This Is Meagan Kerr again, who is the NZ brand ambassador for Morgan Taylor.

NOTD: Matte Pink and Gold Glitter

Well I haven't done a NOTD post in awhile, and since I quickly did my nails today (they were so chipped and gross and were getting on my nerves!) I thought I would share them with you!

What I used:
  • Essie Nail Polish in "Hard To Get" - needed three coats of this to get a decent coverage, fully not impressed. If it takes more than two coats, I'm not really a fan.
  • Revlon Matte Top Coat - I actually really like this as a matte top coat, it works pretty well!
  • Milani One Coat Glitter Nail Lacquer in "Gold Glitz" - This is my favourite glitter to use when you want a real opaque look. I used it with a dotting tool to decorate the nails. Polka dots here and there, some stripes and... done!

And that's it! Quick and easy right?
I actually quite like the way it turned out, I love the combination of pink and gold and I think the different textures compliment each other nicely!

NOTD: Snowflakes!

I love doing my nails. Especially around Christmas time when it's ok to do Christmasy designs! I'm gonna try and do a few different designs up until Christmas, but in the meantime...
This is what they look like today!

And here's what I used:

First I applied Milani One Coat Glitter in Gold Dlitz. I then started stamping using Konad white special polish and the snowflake designs on the bundle monster plates: BM14 and BM319. To finish it off I drew some little stars and dots with the dotting tool (Btw I used my OrlyWhite Out for that!)

To seal the design, I made sure to apply the Konad special Clear polish!

Hope you liked this quick look at my nails, be sure to check back soon for more nail art designs.

NOTD: Super Mario!!

I absolutely LOVE old school Super Mario, so when I saw this video by cutepolish on Youtube, I knew that I had to give it a go.
Now I'm not gonna lie, my hands were shaking like crazy - but I'm still really happy with how it turned out!

Photobucket

Heres what I used:
  • Kleancolor Pink Sleepers as a base
  • Santee White on the tips and as the 'dots' on the shroom
  • LA Colors Art Deco in Limon on the tips and as the shroom
  • Beauty Treats in Black for the eyes
  • Kleancolor in Clear as a top coat
Ugh, I'm dying from the cuteness. I've been staring at my nails all day - and so has everyone else! I've had SO many comments on them, some positive, some not so positive. Buy hey, haters gon' hate! Hahaha.

Swatch Watch: OPI Pirates of the Caribbean - Mermaid's Tears

I’m going to be honest here, I think OPI nail polishes are a huge rip off. I’m not sure how much they are overseas, but here in New Zealand, they retail for around $26NZD. Who in their right mind would pay that much for a nail polish?! Ugh, apparently I would.

The OPI Pirates of the Caribbean Collection appealed to me because I don’t actually own any pastel nail polishes, I do have to admit that the fact they thought pastel colours are pirate-y is ridiculously strange to me. But they’re beautiful pastels nonetheless.

I bought two colours from the collection, one of which was Mermaid’s Tears.

This is two coats, and I can honestly say I am not impressed. The colour itself is beautiful, but the application was horrible! I can’t believe I spent $26NZD on it, when the quality is of something that should cost $2NZD. Disappointing. The colour really is gorgeous though, and I have to keep telling myself that to justify how much I spent on it. Hahaha.

Because I’m on such a konad high, I of course had to stamp something over it, just to see how it looked. The result? Freakin’ amazing.

I had SO many compliments on this design. Everyone seemed to adore it, and I have to admit that it’s definitely one of my favourite combinations to date.

So all in all, I really don’t think OPI nail polishes are all that wonderful. If you shop around you can find cheaper nail polishes that are far superior in quality. What do you think??

Review: Glittergal 3D Holographic Nail Polish

The lovely Kerry from Glitter Gal was kind enough to send me a holographic nail polish for review. I received the colour ‘Copper’ from their 3D Holographic collection. At $11.95AUD, these are very reasonably priced.

I received this early last week and was dying to try it out but was too busy with work and other commitments, so it sat on my table just waiting for me to use it. It comes in a 9ml bottle, I was definitely surprised at how small it was but I actually prefer it. I’ve had so many nail polishes over the years go all gross and gluggy because I haven’t been able to use them all. So to me, these being on the smaller side is nothing but beneficial – and they’ll take up way less room if I use them in my kit.

The formula itself is a beautifully smooth consistency – it applies like a dream! The first coat was quite sheer and a little streaky, but the second coat fixed that up nicely. The holographic effect is sooo intense! As I write this my nails are glittering beautifully in the sunlight that’s streaming in through the window. It is seriously gorgeous. I actually can’t stop admiring my nails. :P

Isn’t it gorgeous?!
I’m so impressed with this nail polish, I am actually dying to get my hands on the other ones in the collection now. Especially the black and silver ones! And how cool would these look with a konad design over them?

Check out these amazing nail polishes at their website http://www.glittergal.com.au, I assure you, you will NOT be disappointed!

Bargain Beauty Buy!

So each week I am going to post a Bargain Beauty Buy - an item so cheap (yet worth every cent) that you simply MUST have!

This weeks Bargain Beauty Buy is:

Santee Plus Nail Lacquer $3.00 NZD

These are honestly, without a doubt, the best value nail polishes money can buy. They come in a HUGE range of gorgeous colours, are non-streaky and go on smoothly and effortlessly. I'm one of those people who is usually quite terrible at applying nail polish (I don't know what it is, but I usually manage to muck it up) but with these, making a mistake is practically impossible.

The three colours I have, from left to right are: M68 Beach Blue (Beautiful turquoise colour), M2 Rainbow Pink (My favourite, a stunning light pink with a tinge of gold in it) and M64 Beach Pink (Bright Fuschia)

You can purchase them at dollar stores around New Zealand, not every store stocks them, it pays to hunt around. You can also purchase them on ebay.
